VVAA - Mod World Vol 1 (personal recop 2008)
MOD WORLD Vol 1:
Han publicado el CD "They Are Coming...." detrás estoy.
The Waistcoats : Holanda. fantásticos.
The Insomniacs : De New Jersey (USA) .Absolutamente recomendables. Mike Sin (the Insomniacs) junto con Stu Rutherford (the Creatures of the Golden Dawn) han formado : The Royal Purple", psycodelia pop.

VVAA - We Are The Mods Vol 2 (year?)
.
An odds and ends collection of unreleased demo and live tracks. Overall not very exciting. A few good tracks - Cigarettes, Killermeters (now available on their compilation CD), Small World, Terry Tonik (this is from a 7", its also on the 100% British Mod CD). The Jam song is a cover and the sound is complete crap. There is a Volume 1 which I never did get. They must have put all good stuff there, leaving the leftovers for this one. There is also zero information about the bands, save some newspaper clippings on the back cover.(International Punk Compilations).
.
Rare second release in this series that features un-released tracks by The Directions, Small Hours, Speedball, Back to Zero etc.... Only 1000 copies pressed ans comes in a full colour ultra mod sleeve (Detour Records).

The Stairs - Mary Joanna EP (1992)
.
Mary Joanna is an ep released in 1992 by The Stairs. As with other Stairs releases, it was issued in several formats: cd single, 7" vinyl, and 12" vinyl. The 7" vinyl release came with Stairtex Record Cleaner enclosed, supposedly a cd cleaner on one side, and a vinyl record cleaner on the other. The cleaner was actually a piece of sandpaper, the coarse side of which was supposed to be used to 'clean' cds. (wikipedia)
Edgar Jones has now a new band: Free Peace, and sounds like "Led Zeppelin". You can hear it at myspace.
(You can find "Woman gone and say goodbye" in this friend blog: Sonido Santo )

SEARCHING.....The Keepers - The Keepers (2002)
Hugh Burns . vocals, guitar
Will Stitt . vocals bass
Bob Martin . lead guitar
Norm Burns . drums
.
.
The Keepers are a mod band from Belfast and this is what say Kim Fowley of them : "They are legendary, and they've had weird records out, licenced in Spain and Switzerland. They've toured in Belgium and i'm sure that your readers who know to use the Internet can find them. They're really something but they're in a time warp. They are not doing it as revisionists or a Sha-Na-Na kind of tribute. They are actually like that. They write their own material and they do strange arangements of songs from that time, and it's though there's never been a Celine Dion, or there's never been a Tom Cruise, there's never been a Bradd Pitt or a Britney Spears, when you talk to them or hear their music. Perfect time warp. I recommend people seek them out. I'm a fan of their music. They've got some really nice messy tapes they've sent me. All tormented and brooding - just like the original band". The Shambles - (We've Got A) Groovy Thing 7" (1995)
.
The Shambles are Bart Mendoza, Kevin Ring and Mark Z (and many drummers....) or as they say in their web page: The Shambles are a guitar-oriented Power Pop band. They are not a "band without a past" but rather a band with a pedigree. Consisting of Bart (main songwriter, lead vocalist, and rythmn guitarist), Kevin (lead guitarist, backing vocalist, and occasional lead vocalist), Mark Z (bass player extraordinaire), and Brad (quite possibly the last in a string cotaining more drummers than Spinal Tap), The Shambles bring tightly packaged melodic gems to life both on stage and in the studio. Bart's songs, full of catchy melodies, tight harmonies, and guitar hooks (often courtesy of Kevin), rarely clock in at more than two-and-a-half minutes. And in this case, less is more.

In 2008 Dave Baisa, component of "The Odd Numbers" , made some videos for youtube playing acoustic versions of their songs and other assorted covers. I converted the sound of these videos to mp3 and made this archive. 22 songs with irregular sound but if you're a fan of Baisa you'll like it. If you want to see all the videos : here or here

The Apemen - Phantacity (1996)
.
This is the CD or LP edited by Detour Records after the single Love Train ( Detour 94) and contains the two songs of this single. The Apemen also appear in the Detour's first reference (Long Play): Shout & Scream with the bands Thee Cherylinas and Clique , and in the Live Modstock , Saarbrucken '94. In the Phantacity archive I put the song I Got Soul as a bonus track.

VVAA - Fuimos Los Mods (Recop 80s)

The Direct Hits - Modesty Blaise(1982)
The Direct Hits performed this song in 1982, but I think it was reissued later. Found in a compilation of Tangerine Records, Come On Peel The Noise, and was not published in either of the two albums: Blow Up and House Of Secrets, but in the compilation The Magic Attic in Tangerine, where also is the B side of the single Sunny Honey Girl.
Modesty Blaise, fantastic song.

SEARCHING.......(Thee Mighty) Uptight
Jonny Magus Guitar/Vocals,
Simon Fletcher Bass/Vocals,
Travis On Organ
Dynamite Daz Lee On Drums
I can't be both EP 2000
The Hitman From Detroit EP 2001
slighty psycho EP 2002
Collars And Cuffs 2003
Pink African Violets EP 2004.
.
In this section: SEARCHING... I only intend to give you some info and some songs about groups that I could not get complete archives of (singles,EP,LP..) and of course I'm searching now.
(Thee Mighty) Uptight: Noisy chaotic bunch of mod-garage goons from Leeds, who had a good laugh and blasted out some tunes. The band were active between 1998-2004, and cleared many a room with their incredibly loud mod/garage, guitar trashing drum smashing sounds.
'(Thee Mighty) Uptight' initially split into two bands, with Daz and Si forming garage punk soul band 'The Lies'; Jonny and Travis disembarked to form power-pop act 'Freebooting Profiteers'. Over the next couple of years both bands gigged and recorded. 'Freebooting Profiteers' eventually evolved into 'The Ace', with a more direct power-pop sound. 'The Ace' has had a recent line-up shuffle, and by happy synchronicity, the dynamic drumming loon Dynamite Daz is back playing with Jonny and Travis. The Lies went on a hiatus a while ago, so Si decided to stride forth with his eccentric indie skiffle electronica folk punk pop band, 'The Grizzly Bare Band', where you'll get mandolins, oscillating keyboard FXs and a double bass, all doing battle with rocking drums, distorted guitars and a xylophone. Until Daz joined The Ace, the dynamite man has been bumming around, helping out on drums for his various mates covers bands, an indie band (I need to check out the name of the band), as well as jamming in a heavy two –piece band. (Jonny Magus)

Paolo Apollo Negri - Applecore (2007)
.
Considered one of the finest Hammond organ players throughout the world, Paolo ‘Apollo’ Negri (b.1979) started his music adventures in 1992 with Italian prog trio Nice Price, before adding his patented grooves to The Link Quartet in 1997, rocketing (and rocking) their sound to a worldwide audience and co-launching his homebase label Hammondbeat Records (USA) with the seminally vintage-sixties rock-funk-soul-lounge underground classic “Beat. It” (2002) that evolved into his solo debut soul-jazz masterpiece “A Bigger Tomorrow” (2007, Hammondbeat).

The Acrylic Tones - Above The Streets And Houses (1997)
.
Five hard working lads from Sunny Newcastle are no strangers to the Detour label. Indeed they've already seen two 7" singles and an album released here all of which have proved to be best sellers. Their individual hammond driven sound has been given a more 90s feel for these recordings but the ability to write great foot tapping, lyrical master pieces is, as always, embedded within the grooves of this album. Featuring a different version of Radio Tones on each format, this album is a must for everyone, whether your preference is 60s Mod or 90s Brit Pop.

The Odd Numbers - The Easy Life 7" (1995)
.
The Odd Numbers are without a doubt the best thing that ever came out of San Jose! screams a drunken haggered old drunk on a park bench, I should know I used to work for em! just then a mini van packed with all the Numbers gear pulls up and the band hop out run over and grab the drunkerd. its Rocko! and he's driving,! off on another wacky Odd Numbers adventure. the band has been together for over 15 years and played all over the world but that won't stop them from turnin it out down at the Caravan(local dive) on a thursday nite. theyd be drinkin down there anyway. after a bit of a break the Odd Numbers are back and ready to record their 5th L.P. along with a beraugh of singles to go along with it. I want to bring back the lost art of making good singles, says Baisa. The new single " HIgh Alert" is out now! (from myspace)

The Most - Debut EP (1994)
.
The Most, who hail from the north-west of England, present their own brand of hard hitting, energetic, 'powerpop'.
Modsters The Most blend influences from the 60s and Northern Soul, Ska, 2-Tone, The Small Faces, The Prisoners and of course 'Mr Mod's God' himself, Weller, to create an exciting sound that has been described as "punchy, hypnotic, white soul". (taken from the EP's back sleeve )

Green Circles - Get On The Outside Of This (2001)
Four men, a guitar, a bass, some drums, some organ and some vocals Green Circles have released three albums in Australia, Get on the Outside of This and Brass knobs, bevelled edges (and in 23 different positions) put out by the most rockin' label around, Off The Hip. Early 2006 saw the release of the album Black Vinyl Heart a UK compilation of 17 songs from these albums, plus an extra track, released by Biff Bang Pow. November 2008 saw the release of Tavistock Street by the wonderful Off the Hip Records .(myspace)
If there was a band out there that could break the barrier between 60..s & 80..s Mods, these guys sure fit the bill as their sounds would please both sets. (Buster, modculture)

The Stairs - Weed Bus EP (1991)
Right In The Back Of Your Mind y Who is this is (esta contiene lo que debía ser su segundo LP).
.
The Stairs were truly one of the great long lost bands of the early nineties. The Liverpudlian four-piece love of retro pop formed the basis of a cool mix of psych and R'nB that promised so much but in the end delivered very little.
Not that the band were to blame. Far from it. In Edgar Summertyme they had a charismatic and colourful lead singer with a distinctive bluesy growl that put a prime Mick Jagger to shame and with an obsessive heart for attention to detail. They had the look and the cool to match. The seminal EP 'Weed Bus' is now a collectors item and the only album 'Mexican R'n'B' is packed with pop classics unashamedly ripped off left, right and centre from every obscure 60's band there ever was. Leslie Overdrive - ...With the Hammond, in the beauty (2007)
Leslie Overdrive pertenecen al sello discográfico "Hammondbeat", sello puntero en el sonido hammond con gente como Link Quartet, Captain Hammond, Paolo Apollo Negri, Phat Fred, The Yards, The Get Up, The Men From SPECTRE........ grupos que irán saliendo poco a poco, bueno, y los que me he olvidado.......
.
In the beginning God created the four men.
Now these four men were square and empty, darknesswas over the surface of their souls, and the Spirit of Godwas hovering over them.
And God said, "Let there be Hammond," and there was Hammond. God saw that the Hammond was good, andHe separated the Hammond from the Leslie. God calledthe Hammond "funk," and the Leslie he called "soul."And there was funk, and there was soul - Leslie Overdrive.
.
It was in 2003 that Craig and Kapper first met. They quickly discovered their mutual love of swirling Hammond and thus, there was only one way forward. In early ’05 they came into contact with Kristian who joined their former cabaret-project “Funksovs” (Funkgravy). But only a few months after the arrival of “The Reverend” they decided to turn the boat in a whole new direction. Teaming up with Craig’s childhood schoolmate Mads, all four now looked onwards and upwards towards a future filled with fun, love and buckets full of Hammond.

The Waking Hours - What You Don't Know 7" 1992
The Waking Hours began officially in April of 1991 when Tom returned from living in the UK. Inspired by a combination of Madchester, Shoegaze, C86, and the early 80's New Romantic movement, the lineup of Tom Richards and drummer Rob Clark was solidified by David Moore on bass.

Manual Scan - The Lost Sessions EP 1989
Releasing a string of singles beginning in 1981 and an album issued in both the U.S. and England in 1986, the band toured extensively throughout Califormia and Arizona as well as England (the 100 Club and the Marquee, among other venues) and Mexico. Mendoza and Ring are now members of the Shambles, along with Mark Z, formerly of the Crawdaddys.
Other members have included Paul Brewin (later in Drip tank, Uncle Joe's Big Ole driver); David Anderson (Trebels, Gravedigger V); Joel Kmak (Hitmakers, the Farmers, the Penetrators); Brad Wilkins; Rob Wilson; Bobby Allend; and Morgan Young; as well as guitarist Ritchie Rooster and saxophone player Joe Asaro.
A number of Manual Scan's recordings are available today: Manual Scan's U.S. "Best of" compilation, All Night Stand, is available from Get Hip Records (http://www.gethip.com/), as is the Lost Sessions vinyl EP. (FYI: The band also has a "Best of" issued in Spain by Snap Records, Plan of Action, with different songs and a different cover.)
In November 2006, Spain's Munster Records re-issued Manual Scan's ultrarare Plan of Action 7" vinyl EP as part of their Collector's Club series.
Numerous bands from around the world have covered the band's songs, including the Eddies ("Jungle Beat"), Afterglow ("Of Heart & Soul"), Mod Fun ("Nothing Can Be Everything"), Anna Troy ("31968"), the Kingpins ("Plan of Action"), Anthony Meynell & Sugarplum ("Confidence & Love") and Static Halo ("American Way").

The Special AKA - In The Studio (1984)
Voted by Record Mirror as the best album of the year, 'In The Studio's release was slightly tarnished by the fact that half the tracks were already available on singles that preceded it. It was a dark social commentary and despite being recorded over such a long period, sounded remarkably intact.
Described by Dammers as "an album of different traps warning people about them", he was justifiably pleased with the record, "This LP's a once in a lifetime thing, I love messing around in the studio, but unless I build my own, I'll never get the chance to do it again. I can't afford it." (Two Tone Records)

Steve Cradock - Two acoustic songs BBC Radio2

Ocean Colour Scene - B-Sides, Seasides and Freerides (vinyl 1997)
Rounding up all the B-sides, demos and rarities Ocean Colour Scene released over the course of 1996, when the band was riding the crest of their popularity, B-Sides: Seasides & Freerides, for all its inconsistency, illustrates the depth of their ambition, as well as their flaws. Primarily comprised of acoustic material, including a demo of "The Circle" and a fine, stripped-down version of "The Day We Caught the Train," the 16 tracks on B-Sides can tend to sound a little samey, but when the group branches out to the neo-prog-rock of the very English "Huckleberry Grove" or to the funky instrumental "Chicken Bones and Stones," they sound better than ever, and a couple of early songs by the pre-Ocean Colour Scene band the Fanatics are interesting. Still, about half of the songs suggest that OCS may be a little too reverent in their appreciation for late-'60s rock, since they come across as only stylistic exercise, not full songs. And their live cover of "Day Tripper," featuring Noel Gallagher on guitar and Liam Gallagher on vocals, is an embarassment, simply because Liam's restrained vocals slay Simon Fowler's bellowing. But this is an isolated moment on B-Sides: Seasides & Freerides, since it contains enough first-rate material to make it necessary for dedicated fans. All Music Guide
