Suedehead 2011-2012

Suedehead is one of those many groups I get to know on my visits to friendly blogs, always motivated by a positive review which catches my attention, I look for it, find it, download it or listen. Maybe not all the bands I discover surprise me 100%, but that's not the case with Suedehead. They didn’t surprised me, they delighted me. For the time being they have published three EP's, which together can make a zero-waste CD. As soon as I listened to them I remembered Gene, Costello or my beloved The Boyfriends, maybe because of Davey Warsop’s voice, but the similarity ends with a Soul or Northern touch which after a short listening time gives them their own personality.
Suedehead have their own record label, International Soul Rebel Society, I.S.R.S., which can be found in their own webpage, where you can also listen to all their songs.

No sólo me sorprendieron, me encantaron.

The Onlookers - You And I 7'' (1982)

These are a mod band from Slough but living in London. They were active from 1978 to 1982, and on their last year they released the 3-song single "You And I" with Demon Records. They are a cult group, as they only released this single and two songs (Houseman and Mystic Surrounds Me) in the 1981 “Subway” compilation. The three songs in this single are very well known for having been released in the "This is Mod Vol4 Modities" compilation, and also in another Demon Records compilation, "Demon The Singles Collection Originals As & Bs From 1980 to 1983", and the song "Windsor Castle" in "We Are The Mods Vol 2". A second single was announced (produced by Vic Coppermith-Heaven) with the songs Houseman and Cheiftain, but it wasn't to be. In the end Detour Records, after looking for lost tapes and recordings, published this last May the "Blue and Green and Tangerine" record, featuring everything published and what Polydor Records was supposed to do… The album has great quality and sound, no repeated tunes, I'd definitely recommend it. More info on the record in Detour, or listen in Spotify

Here is a review of "Blue And Green And Tangerine"

The Onlookers emerged from the late 70's early 80's Mod revival scene but by the time the recordings on this CD were made the group had blossomed into one of the era's most interesting and gifted bands with fantastic songs and an image to match. The Onlookers left an indelible impression on anyone who encountered them during their brief live span and although they managed only one 7" - the highly sought after 'You And I' on Demon Records in 1982 - the group has gained a cult, almost legendary status over the intervening 30 years. Their songs and sound as fresh today as they were back then. Whilst bootleg cassettes and CD's of live concerts have served only to fan the flames of interest - only rumours existed of an album of demo's that The Onlookers had recorded for Polydor with Jam producer Vic Coppersmith-Heaven. Finally we are proud to present 19 fully restored and enhanced tracks as they should have been heard back in 1981. The actual packaging for this CD (designed by paul Kelly) is to die for........a full colour 16 page booklet crammed full of rare photographs, press cuttings, gig flyers and a comprehensive history of the band by Martin Kelly PLUS additional sleeve notes and commentary from Rick Blackman, Eddie Pillar and Brian Kotz. No expense spared on this release ..... once lost and now found we present The Onlookers!
